SUBJECT:New York Times article on IPad Video Situation
DATE: Feb. 1, 2010
This is a summary of a news article from the New York Times explaining that the IPad is unable to display video features or animations using Adobe's Flash.
What is the IPad?
The IPad is Apple's new device that is similar to a mini laptop, but shaped and works like the ITouch. It lets you browse the web, play videos, etc. (Wilson) "Media companies hoped that the device would finally lead to a viable way for them to charge for news, books and other material." Since the gadget is so technologically great, Apple believes it will be worth it to people to buy things that you can use with the device
The Situation
Adobe Flash is one of the world's most used applications, (Bilton) "Appearing on 98 percent of all computers." But Apple doesn't seem to care; The new IPad will not allow flash player to play on the device. Even though it is on all other apple computers, they say it is too slow and uses up battery life. So you will be seeing white dots in place of where the flash video file would be.
Apple is trying to be a powerhouse and start a trend for the video-technology world. Instead of using the flash, Apple uses HTML5, which is a more web-based video content. It will allow the IPad to process faster and give the user a better experience.
Question to ask TU students...
Would you buy an IPad that does not play flash media files?
Would you use flash video files rather than the new technology out there today?
